Golden Vienna – Mozart: Mass in C minor

Having started the season in Italy, and taken in Bohemia, Edinburgh Royal Choral Union’s musical Grand Tour of Europe ends in Golden Vienna with a performance of Mozart’s “Great” Mass in C minor.

The mass was composed shortly after Mozart’s marriage to Constanze – the work radiates his love for her and the city that became his home. A showpiece for vocal soloists, it includes some of Mozart’s finest choral music – Handelian choruses, dense polyphony and an endless stream of gorgeous melody. In similarly celebratory vein, operatic favourites and Mozart’s early Regina Coeli will complete the programme. ERCU is once again joined by the Edinburgh Pro Musica Orchestra and young soloists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
